Can’t Connect to the Internet:
-
Make sure that you have the
Proper Dial Up Modem Number of 461-6125. If you are connecting from
a Motel or an Office that has a Switchboard you will probably need 9,,4616155.
-
When Trying to connect and you fail, Pick
up the Phone and Call some one, Listen for Noise such as Static, Hums, Rings,
Crackles. If you hear this noise, the Computer can hear it to and it
will either disconnect or fail to connect.
-
Most Common:
When
clicking the Internet explorer or Outlook,
you do not see the dial-up come up or you don’t hear the modem. This is our
single largest trouble call. If a web site is ever down the Internet explorer
gives you the Message “Page can’t be displayed” and asks, “Do you
want to work Offline?” If you ever answer Yes, You are set permanently
off line. To fix this Click Start, Click Settings, Click Control Panel, Click
Internet Options. Go to Connections Tab. You will probably find a dot on
“Never Connect to Internet”, Change this to “Always Dial my Default
Connection”, Click Apply, Click Ok. You are now able to go back on Line.
-
Account May be

- You do not have a valid user account, or you do not have remote
access permission. Solution: Verify
with your ShipleySystems that your user account has
been established, and that you have remote access permission.
- Your modem cannot negotiate with the modem of the server.
Solution: Your Modem May be defective or set to to
High of a Baud. Go to the Modem Properties
and the Dial Up Properties and set the Maximum Baud at 57,600
- The modem cabling is faulty. (External Modems)
Solution: Do not use the 9-to-25-pin converters that are
included with most mouse hardware because some of them do not carry modem
signals. To be safe, you should use a converter made especially for this
purpose.
- The telephone line Is Bad (for example,
in your hotel room) does not accommodate your modem speed. Solution: Select
a lower bits-per-second (bps) rate (or call the hotel manager to request a
direct line). Or Call The Phone Company.
